We had a call the other day from a first time possible customer. She wanted a quote for general carpet cleaning.

Great!

So we went through the usual laundry list of what we need to know. After a couple of questions she asked, “why do you need so much information?”

Here’s why – there is no such thing as ‘general’ carpet cleaning. The reason for this is that each and every job is unique and needs to be treated as such. We ask a lot of questions in order to get as much information as possible.

How many rooms in the house?
What’s the square footage?
One or two stories?
Are there pet issues?
Any red stain or paint in the carpet?

Yes, we ask a lot of questions. However, this allows us to give you an accurate, spot on price with no surprises when we arrive.

To us, customer service is priority number one. Doing everything right including (especially, really) the price is what people should expect – not hope for.

Craigslist, the go to place for selling just about everything second hand as well as offering home services, employment postings, etc. is also the headquarters for many a carpet cleaner.

People that want/need a deal will go to Craigslist to find what they’re looking for. Sometimes it works out great – other times not.

In Las Vegas Carpet cleaning for example is a service that seems to be the most often posted in various categories. When we are swamped at the end of the month with work and get calls from people needing same day service (move outs) I will sometimes suggest that people go to CL to find a cleaner.

However, I always preface this with a couple of strong suggestions:

-Spell out exactly what you need done (3 rooms cleaned, whole home carpet cleaning) so there is little left for debate.

-Get a firm quote! Do not accept a rough estimate or let them ‘figure it out when they get there’. This rarely, if ever, works out.

Most cleaners that are available to work the same day will post. As a rule of thumb, most cleaners are not available for same day service (we generally are booked out a few days in advance. This is the case for others as well). This makes CL a great tool for those that need work done on very short notice as well those that need to find work.

Just use caution when selecting a carpet cleaner. Don’t always fall for the lowest price and seemingly great deals. All that glitters is not gold.

This was a real nasty carpet that we cleaned about a month or so ago. Customer was very happy with the results as were we.

Move out cleaning is not enjoyable, but its a part of the process of moving on.

But which is worse – not getting your deposit back or having a lousy day making sure you get all your ducks in a row?

We can get you cleaned up and looking good for your inspection. However, you need to do a little homework in order to make sure you get all of your dough back.

First, make sure you contact your landlord, property management company or building manager and double verify all the requirements necessary for a proper move out.

Be sure to ask about holes from nails, tacks, etc. Do you need to fill them or not?

How about walls? Do you need to wash them or will management take care of it?

Also, always be sure to remind them how long you’ve been a tenant. The longer you’ve resided at a place the more wear and tear you’re allocated.

Put it this way:

Let’s say you’ve been a tenant at an apartment building for 2+ years and you paid $850.00 a month in rent.

Over two years you’ve given them a cool $20,400.00!

Remind them (and yourself) of this!

Lastly, be present for the walk through. Do not let them walk the property alone. Often times they will try and do the inspection without you. This is not what you want to let happen. Being a part of the walk through allows you to address any potential issues immediately.

Way too often lately we’ve been getting calls from consumers that have been victims of some local bait and switch artists.

One person called us after she called out the unscrupulous cleaners for what should have been a 3 room cleaning for $49.00 (!!!!) only to discover that the invoice presented to her totaled almost $550.00!

The consumer sees a ‘too good to be true’ ad and makes an appointment. Upon arrival said consumer is greeted by two guys bearing second rate equipment, third rate cleaning skills but charge first rate pricing.

Look, you need to be careful. We understand full well that not every person out there will use us. That’s ok. But when you do choose a cleaner (not just carpet, but any kind really) be sure to get a firm quote. Ask lots of questions and don’t let price dictate your thinking.

Not all cleaners engage in these types of tactics – but sadly many do.

Near the end of the month we always get swamped with move out cleaning jobs.

The reason for this is pretty obvious, I know. But it always makes me feel good to know that we not only met, but exceeded a customers expectations. At a job a couple of weeks ago we asked the customer to go upstairs and check out the work.

“Oh wow! It’s better than I expected! I can’t believe it’s this clean!” Is what we heard from her again and again.

Was an awesome job and were glad that she gave us the opportunity. It’s also great to know that they will have no issues when having their post move out inspection.

Since we provide office cleaning and related services, one of the first questions I ask perspective clients is how often they have the office cleaned.

Some will say daily while others go the opposite way and say once a week or even bi-weekly. In some cases monthly.

Ideally, you should find your business requiring scheduled cleanings somewhere in the middle. If done properly and depending on the type of of business, traffic, etc. you can almost always expect a suggested cleaning routine of 2 – 3 days a week.

Generally speaking 3 day cycles occur on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Two day cleanings are generally performed on Sunday and Tuesday.

At least that’s how we do it….
