Sealing your grout

So many people have tile and grout now it’s not even funny.

What is funny though is the neglect that can occur if you do not maintain your floors.

Tile and grout is an interesting case in point. While the tile is not porous (as opposed to marble as an example), the grout is. If you’re not careful you can easily stain the grout and you’ll have a heck of a time getting it out. This is especially difficult if you have a busy kitchen. Oil and grease is nothing short of a pain in the you-know-what.

The best way to protect your grout is by adding a sealant. Quality sealants will protect your grout from stains for a long periods of time (think years in some cases!).

We may or may not recommend sealing. It all depends on the traffic in your home, how often you cook, etc.

However, more times than not it’s a good idea to at least have it in the kitchen and sometimes bathrooms. If you’re going to have issues, those are the most likely for it to happen.

You can do it yourself, or give us a jingle. It’s a tedious task, but not impossible. It’s more of an issue of if you have enough time, the proper chemicals (quality sealant) and the desire.

If not, let us know!

Preparing for your cleaning

One of the more common questions I’m asked by new customers is what they need to do in order for us to clean.

The short answer: not much.

We only request that you move heavy items and fragile pieces.

This includes:

-Sofas
-Entertainment Centers
-Computers
-TV’s

All the stuff that is either really heavy, really valuable or both.

We will take care of most everything else. The more that is moved ahead of time, the quicker we can get going on your cleaning.

Also, remember that we always vacuum! How many carpet cleaners do you know that will do that?

That’s right….none (at least not for a lot of extra money).

What makes us different?

Carpet Cleaning is a hyper competitive business. Because of the competitiveness, constant start-ups (due to low barrier to entry) and bait and switch operators (the ’5 Rooms for $49.95′ guys), we often find ourselves having to explain our pricing and services. This is understandable. As a consumer you are bombarded with advertising that states big promises and incredible ‘value’. I’m hoping with this post that we can better explain what differentiates us from the other guys. The services we offer, how we price and more.

The most important thing I emphasize with new customers is that we are not your typical carpet cleaning company. Services provided, cleaning processes and pricing are what need to be distinguished.

Our service is all inclusive. This means that we provide a complete cleaning. When we enter your home or business we perform all the steps necessary to get your floors cleaned. In short, this includes a pre-vacuum, pre spray of all areas with special treatment for spots and stains, we agitate all traffic lanes, we use a terry pad extraction and finally post vacuum and groom your carpet.

This is all done for one quoted price. We do not walk into your home and give you a sales presentation. When you call us to book an appointment we ask several questions (size of home, pet stain/odor issues, red and dye stains, etc.) so we can give you a solid accurate estimate. We are not commission based cleaners. We are simply cleaners that are dedicated to making your carpet looking great so that you will call us again and hopefully let others know that we did a good job.

It’s also important to understand that we offer low moisture cleaning. Specifically we offer what is known as encapsulation cleaning. Encapsulation allows us to use about 60% – 70% less water than the typical carpet cleaner. This benefits the consumer for several reasons.

The first and most obvious is that the carpet dries a lot faster – on average it dries in about 60 minutes. Second, the low moisture aspect insures that the dirt will not come back. It is properly extracted from your floors to our pads. Finally, it’s better for the environment and healthier for your home. Leaving your carpets wet having to take several hours to dry is not always a good thing (not to mention running the risk of dirt returning a day or two later because the moisture was never fully extracted). Also, living in the middle of the desert means that we really need to be careful with how much water we use. The less, the better. Wikipedia has a great entry on carpet cleaning. It talks about various methods including encapsulation.

On top of all that, our process just plain does a great job!

Last – but certainly not least – is our pricing.

Many of our online ads say the same thing: ‘No Hidden Fees – No Travel Charges – No Surprises!’

We mean this. Our specials are exactly that – special. Many customers are literally shocked when we finish the job and hand them an invoice for the quoted price. We’re just glad they’re happy with our work!

Yes, we offer carpet protector, sure we do an awesome job of getting out pet odor. We do it all then some! Just tell us what you need, what you expect, and when you want the work done.

We will always do the best job possible.

What Kind of Carpet Do I Want?

Sometimes – and I do mean sometimes – we’re asked what kind of carpet is good to get as a replacement.

The reason I emphasize sometimes is because people rarely look to the cleaning dude when making such important decisions.

But, when it happens it happens and I am always more than willing to share my thoughts, lol.

Anyway, here’s something to chew on:

Plush – the Rolls Royce of carpeting as far as I am concerned. It has a deep, soft feel to it and looks especially nice in formal settings (living room/dining room). Is it practical though? Hmmm….

Berber – this is quite frankly the best carpet to clean. It’s a tight loop which makes it difficult for dirt to get inside. It’s also a good all around material that is rugged and very long lasting. Almost the flip side to the plush fibers above. Comfort level….good but not great.

Loop – This is commercial carpet really. Rarely do you see this in a residential setting. It gets the job done for sure, but not really something you want to live with.

Friezes – Tightly wound, tough as nails. Not really great to feel under your bare feet though. Still, if you want an affordable carpet in a jiffy, you could do worse.

Texture – Another that is easy to clean. However, I see this one having the least durability of all. Only use this in areas with little traffic.

Yes, there are others like indoor/outdoor, wool and more. But the ones above really do cover the spectrum of what’s available.

Happy carpet hunting!

Happy New Year – Sorry for being late….

A little behind the curve I know….

I always like wishing people a Happy New Year. A week before, couple of weeks after – it just feels good. I want everyone to be be happy and have a great start.

We don’t do a ton of business late in December (or early in December for that matter) except for commercial and janitorial work, so it gives me time to reflect.

We’re in this together so we might as well make the most of it!

Happy New Year!

We love pets and we love cleaning up their messes even more!

Here’s our latest clip talking about pet stains and the solutions we offer! And yes, we can get rid of the smell as well….

Also, it’s worth mentioning that I am the owner of two little guys that love to make a mess whenever they can. I guess it’s the cost of a couple of best friends.

Lots of work, but worth it!

Make that tile and grout shine!

Tile and grout cleaning is not fun. This is especially true if you want to do it yourself.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s possible and the results can be great – but it’s going to take some work.

Here’s what you’d need:

-Grout brush
-Long handle with brush attachment
-Bucket
-Mop
-Acid Cleaner/Tile Cleaner
-Quality broom
-Sprayer

In a nutshell you’ll move all furniture and belongings from the area you want to clean. Sweep thoroughly. Use an applicator/sprayer and carefully apply your cleaner. Be sure to avoid cabinets, baseboards, walls and appliances. Let dwell for 15 minutes or as instructed. Scrub with your brush and put as much weight as possible behind the grout lines. Rinse. Mop thoroughly.

For bathrooms, pantries and small kitchens this is achievable.

However, if you have larger areas with deep rooted dirt and stains, you might want to consider a professional service.

Phone us today for a free estimate. We are here to HELP YOU!

Check out our pics! What do you think? We use a weighted down rotary machine with a heavy gauge brush attachment. It works great and is non intrusive.

We really like it and you will too.
